MOOV Implements LIVE Graphics and Video Walls for News UK’s Launch of Talk TV
Background
News UK is one of the leading media businesses in the UK and Ireland. Its news brands include The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, The Sun on Sunday and The TLS. Its national broadcast brands include talkSPORT, Times Radio, Talk and Virgin Radio UK, and it also owns market-leading local stations across Ireland. These brands provide news, analysis, opinion and entertainment to almost 40 million people each month. News UK planned to launch TalkTV in April of 2022.
Challenge
Multiple graphics would need to be driven within a complete newsroom workflow, for both live video graphical overlays and in-studio video walls. Two different sites were to be served by a common infrastructure and there was a short turn-around time.
Solution
News UK selected MOOV for design and graphics workflow implementation. The technology selected was Chyron PRIME as the graphics engine for live video graphics – such as lower thirds, station logos and other text and imagery – and also for animated graphics to appear on the in-studio video walls. PRIME integrated with both sites via a CAMIO server and journalists and producers could use CAMIO’s LUCI plugin to select and fulfill graphics templates. The initial creative design was handled by FOX, in America, who are part of the News Corp group of properties along with News UK. The initial designs were then handed off to MOOV to bring into Chyron PRIME and prepare for various playout requirements.
Result
George Obrey, head of graphics operations at MOOV observed “It’s always a more difficult time when you are presenting not only a new show, but a new channel. Everyone will have different ideas on how they expect things to run. But PRIME and CAMIO offered the flexibility to deliver what they wanted, on time. “
MOOV was easily able to adapt the graphics package delivered by the FOX creative team for Chyron PRIME and the specific requirements of TalkTV.
“PRIME was flexible, making it easy to bring the graphics in,” commented Obrey.
Laurie Beaumont, head of graphics deliver with MOOV, added “PRIME allows slick professional playout options as well – dynamic, triggering multiple actions to multiple screens.”
Chyron support and services were available throughout the project to ensure that everything went smoothly.
“We are always in conversation with Chyron about multiple projects and that’s no different on this one. We seek advice and counsel and those conversations are always very open,” stated Obrey.
To summarize, Beaumont affirms, “We feel that the Talk Tv project has been a successful one. We’ve been able to achieve a lot in a short period of time. I think the production value that we’ve been able to offer has been really high. Things have gone really well and we look forward to pushing that project even further in the future.”
