Chyron Releases a New Edition of AXIS Maps
Faster, More Flexible, and Customizable Tools That Elevate Storytelling
MELVILLE, N.Y. – March 5, 2026 – As part of a busy start of the year at Chyron, the AXIS team developed a set of improvements for AXIS Maps. The features released empower users with more flexibility to create and export their maps, enhance visual consistency across assets within a project, streamline the map-building process, and increase operational reliability to make daily operations more efficient.
“AXIS Maps 2.0 is the outcome of months of planning and developing a completely new interface and functionalities shaped by insights provided by our valuable clients. We wanted to deliver the most advanced and intuitive map production suite for broadcasting, and we are proud to say we achieved it”, stated Peter Matis, product manager of AXIS. “One of the main goals of AXIS Maps 2.0 is to support distributed teams and hub-and-spoke workflows with enhanced visual consistency. To accomplish it, we are providing administrators with higher customization and branding capabilities that set the visual foundation the team uses to create their production-quality maps.”
AXIS Maps 2.0 is designed to offer greater flexibility with new mobile-first vertical ratio support for map creation, reflecting the way audiences now consume news across multiple platforms and helping broadcasters elevate storytelling with insightful maps both on and off air. The refined label controls provide a more intuitive editing experience, enabling users to tailor maps for different audiences by displaying localized place names according to language settings and maintaining legible labels across map assets with clear font size parameters. Additionally, the transition from design to distribution is now streamlined with new export destinations. With expanded integration, users can save map outputs directly to AXIS Track for centralized asset management. The Track module’s existing FTP Delivery functionality has been expanded to support assets generated by AXIS Maps 2.0. Seamless transfer of map files to designated FTP folders is now available through the interface, enabling automation tools and production workflows to manage these new assets automatically.
A key focus of the release is to increase visual consistency, maintaining a branded look across all maps. Improved dark and light default themes serve as starting points, allowing administrators to visualize different options and select the one that best fits the project before fine-tuning specific branding elements. The Map Styles Editor has been redesigned to provide greater control over the map’s visual appearance by defining presets across projects with intuitive new tools. The Theme Editor enables customization of landmass colors, label textures, environmental lighting, and other graphic elements, creating a cohesive look that reflects each show’s identity. The Locator Styles feature offers visual customization for geographic markers, target markers, and callout pointers, ensuring locators remain legible and branded. Furthermore, the Custom Safe Titles functionality supports uploading custom safe-title overlays to match specific broadcast standards, guaranteeing all relevant content on the map remains visible and properly framed during live productions.
Another pillar of AXIS Maps 2.0 is faster map creation via smarter navigation tools that optimize day-to-day usability. The bookmark system is completely rebuilt to provide users with the ability to save and restore the exact state of their map, including visibility settings, road details, boundaries, specific routes, polygon settings, and map icons, enabling them to reutilize saved map views. Additionally, the redesigned Quick Panel makes frequently used tools and bookmarks easier to find and access, improving clarity and making daily map content creation more efficient.
Finally, the overall AXIS platform was updated to provide higher operational reliability with performance and back-end refinements that streamline daily operations. To strengthen security and provide a smoother experience with the Single Sign-On (SSO) implementation, released in December 2025, optimizations to how AXIS handles user sessions have been deployed, including smart session refresh, clearer notifications, and enhanced session state stability. Moreover, the Order Module now includes a set of back-end adjustments to provide a more reliable workflow experience, as well as the new Auto-Refresh functionality, which ensures the information showcased for all requests is updated, helping teams stay organized and focused on delivering graphics on time.
